Skillforce and ABC announce new business Alliance
Skillforce Incorporated and the Baltimore chapter of The Association Builders and Contractors have announced a new business alliance called Project Jumpstart. Through involvement with the Anne E. Casey Foundation, East Baltimore Development Corporation, Goodwill Industries and the Job Opportunity Task Force, Project Jumpstart offers Baltimore City residents a pre-apprenticeship construction training and work program in some of the areas largest construction projects.

What Do Employers Think About Their JumpStart Hires?
As of the date of this article, Project Jumpstart has already produced 40 graduates in our 89-hour pre-apprenticeship program. Best of all, every JumpStart graduate has begun working on projects through Skillforce. Employers agree to lease the JumpStart graduates for three-months before bringing them on board with their company. "This protects the candidate and the contractor," said ABC's Mike Henderson. "They get to try each other out for a while before they make that all important commitment."

So, what are the employers saying? Read on:
• James Stahl, president of James C. Stahl: "I've been very impressed with the two people I hired through Skillforce - They have excellent learning skills and are extremely dependable. They have also shown a strong desire to succeed through their hard work and dedication. The bottom line is, they care and that's not a given these days with new hires."
• Joe McDonald, Hensel Phelps: "We've been using two of the JumpStart graduates and we couldn't be more pleased. They show up early each day, don't wait to be asked what to do; and are picking up the work very quickly."
• Mike Burt, Miles Electric: "I have been pleasantly surprised by the reliability and ambition of our JumpStart graduates. They are hard workers and we plan on placing them in the apprenticeship program. We plan on turning to Skillforce the next time we need to hire helpers."
• Rohit H. Patel, President/CEO, Intelect Corporation: "As a specialty contractor with focus on electrical, security, and communications projects, Intelect Corporation was skeptical that we would find candidates to fit our needs. Our managers have identified several candidates motivated and willing to perform required work, and we look forward to helping them grow into our organization."
• Dwayne Evans, Project Manager, Hensel Phelps: "My JumpStart employee has done an excellent job. He shows superb leadership skills, an eagerness to learn and pride in every task he performs. JumpStart has been everything as advertised."
